#SpecialDelivery: Google Spotlight Stories come to YouTube with interactive 360-degree storytelling

YouTube has been experimenting with various features to develop the platform as a one-stop-shop for virtual reality. Earlier this year, they had introduced Virtual Reality (VR) feature on its Android app, to give that real life experience. Now YouTube creators take the virtual reality experience to the next level by introducing Google Spotlight Stories. For select Android devices though !

So, how is it different ?
This new feature of #Spotlight Stories lets the video creator use the features of the phone such as gyroscope and accelerometer create an immersive and interactive experience. User can choose the angle of viewing and the point from which he wants to track the story towards the end.

As Google explains –
“Special Delivery” is the latest of several Spotlight Stories to come out of Google ATAP (our Advanced Technology and Projects group). With Google Spotlight Stories, your phone becomes a window to a story happening all around you. The sensors on your phone allow the story to be interactive, so when you move your phone to various scenes, you unlock mini-stories within the story.”

So how does it change our lives ?

  • eCommerce players can use this feature to create interactive videos to showcase their service offerings. Create a virtual e-mall so that visitors can just take a stroll and pick and choose the product they like
  • Thanks to MasterChef, there is a new breed of Chef’s which is coming up in every city and catering to every cuisine available in the world. This new interactive feature of YouTube can be used to showcase the making of a recipe in a very interactive way.
  • Real Estate companies can use this feature and embed the videos in their apps to give a real time experience to the customer.
  • The reality shows can go to the next level through this format of videos. Shows like Bigboss can release YouTube only episodes and enable interactivity.
